I assume the wire you checked is the small trigger wire. Then check voltages at the hot post on the starter, especially any smaller wires coming from that point. When it goes into fault, is it overcrank?Īs Alan says, the starter is likely fine.Īs Warwagon says, clean all the connections and grounds. I disconnected it hoping it would be part of the starter circuit but no difference. Any thoughts on troubleshooting the starter circuit? On a sidenote, does anyone know what the black square Hella relay is doing just hanging out in the engine space? It looks like an afterthought- certainly not a factory install look but it is. I was pretty careful with the water but the mouse mess had to be cleaned up. This unit started and ran just fine until I decided to clean up inside. I’ve checked all connections and the battery is good. It seems like it could be a relay dropping out in the starter circuit but I cannot locate any problems. I can jump the starter out at the solenoid and it cranks & runs beautifully. After numerous attempts it goes into fault. It’s like the call to start is dropping out after a few seconds not giving it enough time to actually crank around. I’ve checked power at the relay and I get 12+ V when call to start and then zero and then 12+ V then zero. It only turns a few teeth then power drops out. After a few seconds it tries again but the starter barely cranks the motor enough to start. Generator call to start engages starter briefly then stops.
